Privacy Policy
The short version. Hunt Gear Log stores the journal you write and the account you sign in with, so it can sync between your devices. We don't sell your data, show ads or use tracking or analytics tools. Hunt and scouting entries never use your location. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
1. Who we are
Hunt Gear Log is made by Ciren Technologies LLC. This policy covers the Hunt Gear Log app and this website. Questions go to support@huntgearlog.com.
2. What we collect
Your account
- Your email address, used to sign in and to reply when you contact us.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. We can't see or recover it.
- The name of each device you sign in on (for example, "iPhone"), so you can see where you're signed in and which device last changed an entry.
What you log
- Firearms and loads: make, model, caliber, ammunition details, maintenance and notes.
- Firearm serial numbers, if you add them. These are encrypted before they're stored, and are never included in logs.
- Range sessions, hunts and scouting trips: dates, species, outcomes, shot distance, rounds fired, counts seen, notes, and the location you type in.
The location field is free text that you write, such as "North ridge". We suggest keeping it general. It's stored like your other entries, not with extra encryption.
What we don't collect
- No advertising identifiers, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools.
- No contacts, calendar or browsing data.
- No precise location stored anywhere (see the next section).
3. Location and weather
When you save a range session and have allowed location access, the app looks up the current weather once. It sends your position, rounded to about 1 km, to Open-Meteo, a weather service, and saves only the temperature, wind and humidity with the entry. Neither the app nor our servers store your position.
Hunt and scouting entries never ask for or use your location. If you deny location access, range sessions simply save without weather.
4. Photos
Photos you attach are resized and re-saved on your phone, which removes their embedded data, including the GPS location your camera may have recorded. Today, photos stay on your device. If we add photo backup to our servers, we'll update this policy first.
5. How we use it
- To run the app: sign you in, store your journal and sync it between your devices.
- To show you your own records, totals and exports.
- To answer you when you email us.
- To keep the service secure and working.
We don't sell or rent your data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone for their own purposes. We don't share your hunting records with wildlife agencies, landowners or other hunters.
6. Who processes it
We use a small number of service providers that process data only to run Hunt Gear Log:
- Render hosts our server (United States).
- Neon hosts our database (United States, on Amazon Web Services).
- Cloudflare provides our domain's DNS and network services.
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Open-Meteo receives a rounded position for range-session weather, as described above.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service. If the business is ever sold, your data would only move under the same commitments in this policy.
7. How we protect it
- All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS).
- Passwords are hashed and serial numbers are encrypted on the server.
- Our database provider encrypts stored data.
- Sign-in sessions expire, and you can sign out other devices.
Your journal is also stored on your phone so it works without signal. Protect your phone with a passcode; anyone who can unlock it can open the app's local data.
8. Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while you have an account. Archiving an entry removes it from your log and totals, but we keep the archived record so every device can sync the change; it's deleted with your account.
To delete your account and everything in it, open the app and go to Settings → Delete account, then confirm with your password. This immediately removes your account and journal from our database and erases the copy on that phone. Copies in our provider's short-term backups expire on their normal schedule.
If you can't sign in, email support@huntgearlog.com from the address you signed up with and we'll delete it for you. Other phones signed in to the deleted account are signed out; their copy is erased when a different account signs in there, or when you delete the app. Deleting the app without deleting your account removes only the copy on that phone.
9. Your choices
- See and correct: everything we store about your journal is visible and editable in the app.
- Export: download your log as a CSV file from the Stats screen.
- Location: allow or deny it at any time in your phone's settings.
- Delete: as described in section 8.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your data. Email us and we'll help, whatever your location.
10. Children
Hunt Gear Log isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
11. This website
huntgearlog.com uses no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. Like any web host, Vercel processes your IP address to deliver the pages.
12. Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and we'll tell you in the app before any change to how we use data you've already given us.
